How long do results take?
The Better2Know Instant HIV test takes around 20 minutes to run.
What samples are required?
The only sample required is a few drops of blood which will be taken from a simple, quick and painless finger prick.
When can I have this test?
This 4th generation test delivers the most accurate results only 26 days after your possible exposure to the HIV virus.
Can both men and women have this test?
Yes, the Instant HIV test is suitable for both men and women.
What happens if I test positive?
In the event that your Instant HIV test result is positive or “reactive”, your clinician will ask to take a further blood sample from your arm. This sample will be sent to our CPA accredited laboratory for further testing.
We will never give a final diagnosis based on a single HIV test result. Better2Know follows good medical practice and will always confirm an HIV diagnosis by running three different HIV tests on any reactive sample. This ensures that the final diagnosis is correct and accurate.
Why should I get tested for HIV?
HIV is a type of virus that can cause Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome, also known as AIDS. Whilst HIV is a potentially deadly infection, with proper diagnosis and treatment the prognosis is excellent. Most people diagnosed early with HIV and receiving appropriate treatment can now expect to live a life as long and healthy as someone not infected with this virus. The key to this, however, is to get tested and if positive, get appropriate treatment.
The Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS report estimated that in 2007 there were over 5.7 million people living in South Africa with HIV. That number represents around 12% of the entire population of South Africa and 18% of the adult population, making it the country with the highest incidence of HIV in the world.
